Anaheim Angels: House Florent

House Florent is a prominent house without anything to show for it. Mike Trout, arguably the best player in the modern era, has spent his entire career languishing in Anaheim. Albert Pujols and Shohei Ohtani were on the Angels while Trout was in his prime, but the team has failed to post a winning record since 2015.

Athletics: The Golden Company

The Golden Company is a group of mercenary soldiers, wandering around without a home. (For anyone who’s watched “Game of Thrones”, they appeared in the eighth season.) After leaving the Oakland Coliseum, the Athletics have relocated to Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento. Their new stadium in Las Vegas is expected to open in 2028. This year, they played a six-game series at Las Vegas Ballpark, the home of their Triple-A affiliate.

Houston Astros: House Hightower

House Hightower amassed power through quiet, strategic moves rather than brute force. Thanks to their machinations, they were caught in the crossfire of the Dance of Dragons. They carry a holier-than-thou attitude, which makes the Astros a natural fit. The Astros were embroiled in a sign-stealing scandal during their 2017 World Series run. They got off basically scot-free, kept their championship title, and to this day, many fans condone the cheating.

Seattle Mariners: House Velaryon

House Velaryon collected wealth through maritime trade. Their colors are silver and a tealish sea green, so naturally the Mariners make sense as their MLB counterpart. The Velaryons have spent decades adjacent to the Iron Throne, but none of their direct descendants have actually sat on it and wielded power over the Seven Kingdoms. Seattle is the only team that has never appeared in a World Series.

Texas Rangers: House Tarly

House Tarly is renowned for its military prowess and generally unforgiving culture. The Texas Rangers take their name from the statewide law enforcement agency formed by Stephen F. Austin. Back in the spring, former Diamondcentric writer Davy Andrews discussed the Texas Rangers’ ugly racial history. Randyll Tarly disinherited his firstborn son, Samwell, because he didn’t fit his rigid definition of strength. The Rangers are also the only team in the league that doesn’t host a Pride Night in June – make of that what you will.
